What is a Short Term Recovery Program?

A Short term drug-rehab program is just what the name implies- an addiction treatment plan that allows an individual to overcome their substance dependency in a shorter period of time, usually between 14 to 30 days. While there are endless treatment options across the board, the main dividing factor between programs is inpatient, or residential vs outpatient. Residential programs are a treatment option where patients reside within the treatment facility under professional supervision for the length of their program. This enables the individual to fully immerse themselves in their recovery and receive individualized treatment and care sessions at all times.

Our Serenity Program, Affordable Substance Abuse Treatment at Stout Street Foundation in Colorado, is structured to accelerate an individual’s recovery from addiction during a four week period. The program lasts between 28 and 30 days, offering both social detoxification and intensive residential care. Prior to beginning to the program, each client must complete a full initial evaluation to ensure each client's needs, goals, and objectives are met with an individualized treatment plan. During this evaluation, clients can expect the discussion and assessment of specific substances to which he or she is addicted, frequency and duration of drug use, family history, any previous treatment, mental and physical health concerns, and other factors. These details are critical to creating an effective short term treatment plan that lead to a successful recovery for each client.

Upon the completion of the intake process, clients are brought to their new residence and given time to settle in and adjust to their temporary homes. Treatment will begin promptly, and clients will quickly be exposed to the variety of different treatments and therapeutic services offered as a part of our short term rehab program in Colorado. Cognitive behavioral therapy is used during the duration of the program in both individual and group settings. This approach is ideal for short term, goal oriented, results driven scenarios, and has been a very successful component of our short term plans. We also employ a dialectical behavioral approach, which encompasses principles of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy while placing an emphasis on validation, acceptance, and mindfulness from a psychosocial standpoint. Each client will be recommended different approaches based off of their evaluations and responses to different therapeutic treatments, and the goal of our Serenity Program is to match each client with the best treatment options to achieve recovery goals during their short term residential program.

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy, also known as psychotherapy, talk therapy, or counseling, is where our clients will work one on one with our licensed therapists. During these sessions, our clients are encouraged to explore issues and gain support and understanding around certain issues that may have contributed to their addiction or is hindering their recovery. Aspects that are often explored include feelings, beliefs, childhood trauma, current and past behaviors, depression, anxiety, and addiction. While working through these difficult issues, clients are also encouraged to explore positive goals, futures, and self awareness. Sessions will be conducted face to face on a time basis individual to one’s needs and treatment plan. Ultimately, individual therapy helps clients to know themselves better and understand their behavior more deeply. Quality individual therapy will help clients build new tools to manage or alleviate symptoms, cope with stress, face challenges, and rid themselves of unhealthy beliefs, thoughts, or behaviors.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors. It has proven extremely effective in treating addictions, depression, anxiety, and more. This type of therapy is typically conducted one on one in individual therapy sessions. At the serenity program in Colorado, our CBT approach is short term and focused on solving specific issues and destructive behaviors. The underlying concept behind CBT is that our thoughts and feeling play a fundamental role in our behavior, and during these sessions clients will come to understand what led them to addiction and how to alter their thoughts to create more positive behaviors and attitudes.

Group Therapy

Our group therapy services blend together groups of people facing similar issues and difficulties with one or more of our licensed therapists. While the topics discussed in group therapy are typically indistinguishable from those in individual sessions, our Group therapy offers the chance for our clients to turn to each other for support, feedback and connection, instead of getting all of that from the clinician alone. In these sessions we witness individuals improving on their ability to relate to others and themselves, helping them find a voice and a community. Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one) including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Family Therapy

Our Family Therapy services use our licensed therapists as a guide for families to work through challenges that could be of harm to their relationships and overall dynamic. Known pressing issues may be brought up by any member during the session, and the therapist will likely surface other issues as they feel necessary. What makes family therapy different is its focus on the individual in context. It’s part of the human condition to live in families- they shape us and influence our beings in so many different ways. In order to fully understand ourselves and our behaviors, it is crucial to understand framework and the environment we came from. For our clients, it is important their families understand the hardships addiction caused them and gain the knowledge and tools to support their loved one in a beneficial way. It is not always possible or necessary to include family therapy in treatment plans, but when needed it is a very effective component of recovery that helps strengthen family bonds and individual attitudes.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR therapy)

A form of psychotherapy, EDMR focuses on distressing memories in some disorders, including addiction. The goal of EMDR is to reduce effects of distressing memories by engaging the brains natural adaptive information processing mechanisms, thereby relieving present symptoms. The body is meant to naturally recover from trauma-both mental and physical. When trauma is extreme, which in the case of addiction is likely, the body loses this ability. EDMR is an effective approach to retraining the brain to overcome trauma that altered the body’s natural healing system. More than just a set of techniques, the EMDR approach provides a model for understanding human potential, including how positive experiences support mental health and how upsetting experiences can sometimes lead to psychological problems that interfere with a person’s ability to meet life challenges. The EMDR protocol guides clinicians in careful assessment and preparation work, particularly for persons with histories of multiple traumas. In clients whom are a good candidate for this treatment, EMDR is an effective addition to a recovery treatment plan.

12 Step Therapy

We use the 12 steps and its principles in order to address underlying reasons and conditions of our client’s addiction. The process offers individuals a new perspective on past events and a strong foundation for building a new future. The 12 step program follows a set of guiding principles which outline a course of action for recovery. This approach is a mental and spiritual path to recovery which compliments our medical approaches when combined. A proven addiction treatment technique, clients will be able to engage in this process, maintain their sobriety, and build a secure support network once they complete our short term rehabilitation here in Colorado.

Holistic Treatments

Along with these services, we offer a wide array of holistic approaches to compliment our client’s recovery program. Holistic treatment takes into consideration the whole person as opposed to simply addressing the symptoms of addiction. By “whole person” this treatment is aimed at an individual’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and nutritional well-being. The serenity program’s holistic service aids in relaxation, mindfulness, and general well-being. Our holistic services include yoga, acupuncture, meditation, nutritional advice, breathing exercises, sensory stimulation (music, art, etc.) massage therapy, aromatherapy, and more.
