Stout Street Succes Stories!

From the moment that I walked through the doors of The Stout Street Foundation, I felt love and compassion from the staff and residents pour onto me. I was physically and mentally tormented by my views of myself and of my world. Not knowing what to expect, I quickly found out how much understanding other addicts had for what I had been going through. I also quickly recognized the high level of care and experience given by the clinical staff because they had personally conquered their own addictions. During my stay, I have addressed many issues about my behavior and learned many positive coping mechanisms to help me deal with tragic events from my past. I have been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to my psychological suffering from childhood abuse and combat related issues I perpetrated/ witnessed during the Persian Gulf War. Without this facility and my personal commitment to getting better, I would still be suffering in my addiction and failing in life. I now possess the insight and knowledge to face life on its own terms and have become a whole person, which is largely due to this wonderful program.

I began using cocaine in Elementary School, in the Fourth Grade; I am 34 years old now and have been addicted to drugs for over 2/3 of my life.  I had done every drug under the sun but the one that I couldn’t walk away from was Methamphetamines. I made a disaster out of my life and my family’s life as well. When I was finally arrested and booked into jail in the winter of 2004, I was down to 147 pounds and I am 6’4”. I honestly didn’t think that anyone could tell that I was using. At the rate I was pumping drugs into my veins, I should have been dead many times over. Stout Street Foundation has helped me to help myself to learn to live life on life’s terms. I have seen and can attest to countless miracles that have come about as a result of Stout Street Foundation. I have been clean for almost three years and I have no doubt that this place saved my life. I have made amends with my family and friends whom I hurt during my drugging. My future holds hope and promise that it never had before. I will be forever grateful for SSF and have found an extended family and a new purpose in life.

.: I am 24 years old and I started using drugs at 11. First it was alcohol, then marijuana, but finding methamphetamine turned into my greatest downfall. I first used methamphetamines at age 12 but I didn’t have much to lose at this age, so it was all fun and games. At 15, I got pregnant and I used a couple of times even though I knew that I was going to have a baby. When I stopped using, I stayed clean from methamphetamines for four years. I worked as a nurse’s assistant, had my own apartment, a car, and my daughter Mariah, who was my world; everything I did was for her was to enable her to have the life that I didn’t have. When methamphetamine found me again, it took three years for me to lose all that I had, including my job and my dream of being a nurse, my home, my car, and left me with a criminal history. Thankfully, I didn’t lose Mariah, but I put her through the same things I went through as a child. Stout Street has helped me look past all that I have lost and the foundation is helping me to find myself again. When I leave Stout Street, I will again have a home and dreams that I can achieve because of the foundation. I can be a mother to my little girl. I am so grateful to Stout Street.
